Sinéad O'Connor's Final Wishes Revealed: Estate and Legacy

The probate records of the late Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor, who passed away in July 2023, have been unveiled by the US Sun. According to these documents, O'Connor intended her entire estate, initially valued at .7 million, to be left to her children. After accounting for debts, funeral expenses, and legal fees, the final amount was reduced to approximately .4 million. Additionally, she expressed a desire for her music catalog to be released posthumously under the discretion of her adult children. The artist also made specific requests regarding her burial attire and personal belongings.
Probate documents signed by O'Connor in 2013 revealed her detailed final wishes. She directed that her albums be released after her death, allowing her children to manage the timing "to milk it for what it's worth." This reflects her intention to ensure her musical legacy would continue benefiting her family financially. Furthermore, she specified that she should be dressed in priestly garments, accompanied by a Hebrew Bible and her album "Theology" in her coffin. These instructions highlight her deep spiritual connection and unique personality.
O'Connor also entrusted her youngest son, Yeshua Bonadio, with her guitar collection, while her religious items were meant for her son Shane, who tragically passed away in 2022. Her ex-husband, John Reynolds, was named as the executor of her estate, underscoring the importance of ensuring her wishes were fulfilled accurately. The singer’s death on July 26, 2023, came just 18 months after losing her son Shane. Her cause of death was attributed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, with a respiratory tract infection also playing a role.
In addition to these arrangements, O'Connor granted her children the freedom to dispose of her ashes as they deemed appropriate. Her family released a statement expressing their profound grief over her passing, emphasizing the devastation felt by close relatives and friends. While details of her British estate remain undisclosed, the public now has insight into the singer's thoughtful and deliberate approach to her legacy, revealing both her practicality and emotional depth in planning for her children's future.
